How does importing work?

When you find the horse you want a contract is completed and you get a copy of the contract and horse's registration papers. Then the next step is you send a deposit via bank wire and this starts the process. The horse has to pass blood and a health certification in Holland before an export certificate can be issued. Only after all testing is approved for export then you wire the balance for your purchase. You horse is then shipped via airline to one of the three USDA Quarantine centers where blood testing is done again. After three days your horse is released. If you buy a mare or a stallion over two years old your horse then goes into a quarantine center for 18 days for CEM testing for mares, stallions are a little longer. When the horse has completed this testing and passes your horse is ready to come to his or her new home.

COST: The transportation cost vary depending on where the horse is going. If you are shipping to N.Y. the cost of shipping and all quarantine and vet testing average $4,200 to $5,000 For CEM Quarantine cost see the Quarantine section. We will handle all arrangements including shipping to your door after your horse is released.
